Floods top list of county’s concerns

A hazard-mitigation plan commissioned by the county concluded that flooding, drought and traffic crashes are the top three hazards for the county.

The plan’s lowest three risks? Earthquake, wildfire and civil disorder.

The study is available for public review at the Veterans Memorial Building and on the county’s Web site, www.perryco.org until July 28. It will be adopted at a public meeting yet to be scheduled.

 

Rye Twp. police seek help in catching vandals

Rye Twp. police are asking for the public’s help in capturing those responsible for a recent rash of vandalism.

The vandalism began in April and more than 20 residences have been hit, according Rye Twp. police Cpl. Clinton Shoop. In many cases, the vandalism has included damage to mailboxes.

Shoop said the vandal(s) hit two days in a row in April, and recently on back-to-back Sundays in June.

 
Expansion escapes the drawing board

A long-anticipated groundbreaking was held in East Newport recently. Throughout the two decades, the church has had its ups and downs. Thanks to current pastor Cheryl Dorman, the church has experienced a surge in attendance in the past 10 years.

Dorman was encouraged by the turnout of 90 souls for the groundbreaking, which spoke well for the project. She expressed “pure joy” at the event.
